As the calendar turns to May, it is beginning to feel more and more like stone fruit season here in the Central Valley. Although we are still a few weeks from being at peak production levels, at the end of this week we will begin to ramp up production a bit with the harvest of the Zee Fire yellow nectarines. The Zee Fire is a great early season nectarine, with a beautiful orange and red color. The Zee Fire is also a great eating traditional nectarine variety and offers a unique sweet and tangy flavor that is a beautiful precursor of the Summeripe season to come!

Along with our Zee Fires, this week also marks the start of the Spring Flame 20 yellow peach. Although the Spring Flame 20 is an early season variety, its beautiful dark red color puts it on par aesthetically with any mid or late season yellow peach. It is still a little too early to start the conditioning process, but the Spring Flame 20s will be available in our Summertime Fresh label so don’t miss out on this amazing yellow peach!
Looking ahead to the weather forecast, it looks like our current heat wave will give way to cooler temperatures and possibly rain by this weekend. The cooler temperatures will help the fruit develop the dark red color that Summeripe is known for!
